IPER's Children?
Can you remember when you were six, surrounded by the warmth of a loving
family, integrated into school, protected from harm, well fed and well
clothed? You probably had parents and teachers who cared passionately about
your development and nurtured your talents.
For a street child in Kolkata, life is very different. Children of just six
years old, or even younger, live and sleep rough. Many take refuge in places
like the central railway station where they eke out a living collecting
empty plastic water bottles to sell for recycling. Gangs and rivalry develop
and at the tender age of six, childhood has to be abandoned in favour of
'street savvy'. Food and safe drinking water are in short supply and medical
care is almost non existent - if you get sick, you either get better or you
die.
IPER is a refuge for children like these, providing food, healthcare and
shelter. But IPER's concern does not end with physical necessities:
educational, social and emotional development is of primary concern to their
qualified social workers, teachers and support staff. IPER identifies
vulnerable children and brings them to their centre.
Around 3,000 children take part in programmes that bring security, love and
care where otherwise there would be no hope. With the aid of sponsorship,
these children have schooling, clothes, educational resources, social care,
food, healthcare and the benefit of programmes that work within their own
communities to help improve the future.
Your sponsorship will not just make a difference to a child's life - it will
change it completely. For around £140 per year a child can be taken off the
street and given all these opportunities. For more information contact IPER@savannahmarketing.co.uk |
